How to Make an Industrial Techno Screech

The trick to professional industrial screeches for industrial techno starts with a saw wave and some unison.

My notes from this Short

01

Spectral FM three octaves down

I start with a saw wave and add some unison. Then I add oscillator B on a spectral wavetable, something like Monster 3, and take it down three octaves.

FM A from B and open it up, but take down the level of B.

02

A very fast LFO on the cutoff

In the filter section I add a reverb filter, let it go down, and add some drive and resonance. LFO 1 goes on a very fast rate, and I add it to the cutoff, but only for one or two.

Then I create the proper blend by tweaking the FM, the mix and the cutoff range.

03

Tube distortion with reverb and delay in front

I add distortion on tube mode and a compressor with a low threshold, and now just add reverb and delay in front.

You can also add a pitch attack with an envelope on the coarse pitch, and make a bunch of variations.
