How to Make a Hard Techno Detune Screech in Serum 2

The right way to make hard techno detune screeches starts with a saw wave and envelope 2, taken down a bit and added to the coarse pitch.

My notes from this Short

01

Super stacking with a range of 5

I add unison with 16 voices and detune. Then I go into the gear icon, increase the range to 5 and change it from linear to super.

As you can see, the voices are stacked differently. The outer voices get very detuned, while the middle is a bit more clear and less detuned.

02

A tighter screech with a kick attack

Take down the phase randomization a bit, but not all the way, because it gets too clicky and phasey. Around 40 you get that tighter screech.

I layer this with the noise attack of a kick on one shot, just at a higher pitch. This helps add a click. Then I use LFO 1 on envelope, very fast, and add it to the coarse pitch. Shift alt click for unipolar.

03

Reverb after the multiband

First I add a single band compressor with attack to add more of a click. Then a compressor on multiband with the threshold down and only upwards compression.

Then just a bit of delay and a bit of reverb. I really like the vintage one for these, and I add it after the multiband compressor so the effects get really pulled out of the reverb. Play around with the compression threshold and the pitch down effect.
