How to Use the Advanced Unison Settings in Vital for Techno Screeches

Here's something a lot of people don't know about Vital when making hard techno screeches, and it's really important.

My notes from this Short

01

The detune range in Advanced

Most people just add some voices, detune, maybe a pitch attack, and call it a day. But in Advanced I can completely change how this sounds, and the detune range is extremely powerful.

If I increase that to three and a half or four, I get a lot more range, which completely changes the detune of the sound.

02

Centered unison and a clicky phase

I take down the unison to make it a bit more centered. I like this because it's a bit more analog, especially when I take the phase randomization down. That makes it more clicky. I put that at around 60.

03

Detune power for a few wide outliers

Then change the way the detune is stacked with the unison detune power. If everything is at the center and you have a few outliers that go to a range of seven, you have a lot more control. The center is not as detuned, but those outliers get pushed to a very wide range.

Combine it with the phase randomization, the unison, or the blend, where you blend the original saw wave with the detuned stack. That adds a lot more clarity and detail to your hard techno screeches.
