How to EQ a Techno Kick

Here's what an equalizer does to your techno kick.

My notes from this Short

01

Highs for the click, mids for the body

When I EQ a techno kick, the highs bring out the click, so if you need more punch, add the highs. If you want more character, boost the mids or the low mids. In this range you give a little bit of body to your kick.

If your sub is too overwhelming, take it down. And if it's too soft, boost it.

02

A small cut at 300 Hz

Remove the 300 Hz range, as this is a little bit muddy, but make sure not to overdo it.

The orange band takes a small dip out at 329 Hz.
03

A low pass for softer techno

If you're making melodic techno or softer techno, you might want to low pass the highs, just to make it a little bit muffled. This works really well with rumble kicks too.
