How to Make Melodic Techno Kicks in Serum

Professional melodic techno kicks like Artbat and Anyma start in Serum, with an analog sine waveform one octave down.

My notes from this Short

01

An analog sine one octave down

I start in Serum with the Analog BD Sin waveform, take down the randomization of the phase and get it down one octave.

Envelope 2 is around 380 milliseconds decay on the coarse pitch. Envelope 3 is a little bit longer, and I add it on the coarse pitch as well.

02

Render it short and add a noise click

I render it out, normalize it and make it shorter.

Then I go back to Serum, open a new Serum, disable the oscillator and enable the noise. In the attacks I find a kick attack that works for me, with one shot enabled, render it out and add it on top.

03

Both layers into one channel

I get both of these in my mixer and make sure they go into one channel, where I add Oxford Inflator. Then I clean the kick however I want to.
