How to Use EQs and Filters Between Distortions for Acid Techno

This Serum 2 trick will really upgrade your acid techno game. By now a lot of people already know about stacking distortions, which gives you a lot of tone control.

My notes from this Short

01

An EQ and a phaser between the distortions

Now you can really tweak your acid sound by playing with equalizers and filters in between those distortion stages. After the first diode I take down the low mids a little bit. Then I add a filter in front of the hard clipper, for example a Phaser 24. Take the mix down a bit if it's too much.

The Phs 24+ filter sits between the Diode 2 and the Hardclip.
02

The cutoff drives through fixed filters

Your envelope goes to your filter and creates that acid sound. Everyone does this already. While you move through the cutoff with that envelope, it drives all those filter changes through your final EQ and filter changes, but those stay in place. Because they're in front of different distortion stages, it really changes the game.

This is also how those analog acid sounds were modeled. It's different stages of distortion and filters, all blending together into that final acid sound. That's hard to do if you only use a tube distortion and a normal low pass filter with resonance.
