How to Make an Acid Techno Preset in Serum 2

In Serum 2 you can make very powerful and professional acid techno presets.

My notes from this Short

01

Add Bass low pass with an envelope

I start with a saw wave with no phase randomization, in mono, and open the filter. You can choose any low pass, but I really like the Add Bass. Add resonance and an envelope, take the cutoff down a bit and add the envelope at around 15%.

02

Diode 2 into a hard clipper

In the effects I immediately add a Diode 2 distortion to shape it, then dial in the final sound with a hard clipper, all the way open, afterwards. Add some drive, and a bit more drive in the filter too. You can also change the curve.

Two distortions in the FX rack, Diode 2 first and the hard clip after it.
03

Cutoff range, velocity and Bend+

Then I use a macro to find the lowest point and the highest point. This is your cutoff range. Most acid melodies have some velocity changes, so I assign the velocity to the cutoff range, so the cutoff responds a bit faster to the velocity changes.

Use the Bend+ warp on the saw wave to make it a bit more squeezed and increase the acid sound. Then clean it up with an equalizer that boosts the highs a bit, a normal delay at one eighth dotted, and a multiband compressor with no downwards and the ratio open for upwards compression.
