How to Make a Melodic Techno Saw Lead in Serum

You have to check out this trick for powerful saw leads in melodic techno.

My notes from this Short

01

A unison of 16 with little detune

I start with a saw wave, take down the randomization of the phase, add a unison of 16 and take down the detune a lot.

In the filter section I add a French low pass filter with drive and some resonance, with an envelope that doesn't really move it that much.

Serum OSC A for a melodic techno saw lead: a saw wave with a unison of 16, the detune turned down low and the octave at +1
A saw with a unison of 16 and the detune taken down.
02

Tape saturation and a multiband compressor

Now I add distortion on tape saturation and use an EQ to get rid of those mids. Then a compressor on multiband with the threshold taken down.

Finally I add delay and reverb in front of the multiband compressor. The delay goes on ping pong mode, one quarter and one eighth, then I adjust the low cut, high cut, size and decay.

03

White noise, FM or a phaser on top

I add a noise oscillator on top with a little bit of white noise. To spice it up, use FM from B or add a phaser.

You can do the phaser with the other filter. Use a static phaser, like a flanger, and put it in front of everything.
