How to Make a Melodic Techno Synth in Serum

My melodic techno synths start in Serum, with a unison of 16 on oscillator A and a lower unison on oscillator B.

My notes from this Short

01

Two oscillators through the German low pass

I start in Serum with a unison of 16, and open oscillator B with a lower unison. In the filter section I take the German low pass filter to get an analog feeling, and make sure A and B both go through it.

Envelope 2 goes on the cutoff, and I add a little bit of release on envelope 1.

Serum OSC B and filter for a melodic techno synth: a saw with a unison of 6, and the German LP filter with A and B both routed through it and modulation on the cutoff
OSC B on a lower unison, with A and B both going through the German low pass.
02

Snappy compression and ping pong delay

I add a compressor with a very low threshold so it's really snappy. Then delay on 1/4 and 1/2 in ping pong mode, and reverb with a lot of decay, a lot of size, a low cut and a high cut.

03

AC hum, FM and a one bar LFO

Make sure you add a bit of noise, like the AC hum. You can now FM A from B to make it a little bit more spicy, add an EQ to clean it up, and add some distortion on Stompbox or tape saturation.

Finally I add LFO 2 and make the rate go to a bar.
