How to Layer a Schranz Kick

I wanted to make Schranz kicks a little bit easier, because the production process can be a little bit daunting.

My notes from this Short

01

Main kick, top kick, rumble and noise

I start with the elements you need to have in these kicks: a main kick layered with a top kick, a rumble, and a noise, like a fan or stuff you've recorded outside.

02

Two hi-hat loops an octave apart

Now add two hi-hat loops. One of these loops needs to be pitched down one octave, and the other loop doesn't.

03

One final channel with a clipper and inflator

Put all samples in the mixer and route them to one channel. In this final channel, add a soft clipper and squash the post gain, then add an inflator to squash it against the zero dB threshold. This way you get a little bit more power out of your kick.

FL Studio mixer for a Schranz kick: Main Kick, Top Kick, Rumble, Rumble Noise and the two top loops feed one MAIN KICK channel with Fruity soft clipper on it
All the layers go into the MAIN KICK channel, with the soft clipper on it.
